What is R-407A?

R-407A (a blend of R-32, R-125, and R-134a) is a hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) refrigerant designed as a replacement for R-22 and R-404A in medium and low-temperature refrigeration systems. Known for its efficient cooling properties, R-407A provides improved energy performance while reducing the environmental impact compared to R-22.

R-407A requires synthetic lubricants, such as polyolester (POE) oils, for compatibility and operates at pressures similar to R-404A, ensuring reliable performance across various commercial and industrial applications. While its global warming potential (GWP) is lower than R-404A, it remains higher than newer HFO blends, making it a practical transitional refrigerant for systems unable to adopt advanced alternatives.
