What is R-422D?

R-422D (a blend of R-125, R-134a, and R-600a) is a hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) refrigerant designed as a replacement for R-22 in existing refrigeration and air conditioning systems. Unlike R-422B, which is better suited for smaller residential and light commercial systems, R-422D is particularly optimized for medium and low-temperature commercial and industrial applications. It offers compatibility with both traditional mineral oil (MO) and alkylbenzene (AB) lubricants, simplifying retrofits by minimizing the need for major system modifications

R-422D operates at pressures comparable to R-22, delivering reliable performance and efficiency for larger-scale refrigeration systems transitioning away from ozone-depleting refrigerants. While it has a higher global warming potential (GWP) than newer alternatives, it remains a practical and cost-effective solution for industrial cooling systems, cold storage, food processing facilities, and similar demanding environments where advanced options may not be viable. Classified as non-toxic and non-flammable under the A1 safety rating, R-422D provides a robust option for applications requiring durability and efficiency under challenging conditions.
